Do you mean to suggest you feel your life is not forlorn without religion? Have you the temerity to suggest your life is not pointless? To be fair you didn't actually suggest that, but could you, if you felt like it? Because I can and do.

I can certainly understand why people choose religion (if "choose" is the right word) but I find it amusing that some of them cannot contemplate a fulfilling life without religion, or without their religion. How forlorn their lives must be to be so limited in imagination. :-)

Thanks, Mitch. I certainly will reply with sincerity.

I can only speak for myself. I am not compelled to know who or what God is. I am a nominal Christian, but it is not important to me know whether the Christian God is god, or the only god (personally I find the concept of poly-gods to be implausible). I feel comfortable with Christian teachings as a guide to how I live my life, because my heart tell me they inspire a good life. One might say that I am not bogged down in the details you mention. Because I cannot understand the most fundamental aspects of my existence through my intellect, and because I see a hand of purpose (rather than chaos) at work in the unfolding of time and human existence, I am led to the belief in a Deity. That works for me. I have no interest in cajoling others to share my belief. I made the observation that, from my point of view, life would be barren and forlorn without my faith.
