KT,

You are right with these sector and country funds.

I was looking at the Russian fund the day it got it's first shot in the arm and Yogi's system also put out a buy that day. Well my self talk was that this country is in shambles and caused me to miss a double on some of my capital. Did the same darn thing with Korea on this cycle. Live and learn. <g>

I don't mind holding these small caps for a while. Duram was a good win, but it took a while for management to get the product accepted in the market place. As long as they have a product that is useful, management that is expanding the business or getting things in place to expand the business and have profits to cover the cost of getting the job done I have no problem waiting. It sure is rewarding when the world starts recognizing the value.

We are going to have to figure out what tech is when the drubbing is over. Suspect we will have some new technology and new companies to invest in. Have been doing a small amount of research in nano tech ... maybe an area for someone close to this technology to help us. Bio technology is rapidly changing also.

Take care, Joan

Mike - RE your feeling about gold to Joan: "I am nervous near term...". Me, too. I'm holding so far instead of adding, have one that just set a 52-week high, but all the others I look at seem to be acting in concert and appear to be capable of dropping soon. The metal bounced off that $300 level wham bang. I think the stocks need it to penetrate by at least a few bucks. Still, the action on Friday despite the market's bull surge was purty good. Mixed signals. R

well, i'll put in my two canuck (peso of the north) cents on all this:

a) if people are interested in a gold index type fund, there is the xgd (key in xgd.to on yahoo finance) which is an ETF traded on the toronto exchange. to my knowledge it has only a few golds there, such as abx, pdg, the new newmont (it was franco b/4), agnico, meridian, and i think kinross. i think it is in the low 40's canadian $ right now...
b) i'm getting nervous on gold too, and somehow i have the feeling that a 'maybe it is time to think of selling some' type of post on one of the 'gold friendly' threads might be met with some derision...that could be a sign...the guy on the site www.goldminingoutlook.com thinks now is not yet the time for gold
c) stillwater, well, you know, rah-rah <g>
