I agree with you, such a case signals a confusion between rape and seduction, and the hypothetical case you describe is not rape, so a study that counted it as such is flawed to the point of being useless, or, worse, misleading.

I wonder what percentage of the 1/4 who have been raped by the definitions of that study fit this description.

The fact is that a woman need not have struggled or even voiced a protest, and that she may have compromised herself markedly, by taking off her clothes and getting into bed with the fellow; that she may have been involved in an ongoing sexual relationship with her alleged attacker; and that they might continue the relationship after the incident--- indeed, in the classic study, most of the "victims" did not regard themselves as having been raped, and almost half continued a sexual relationship with their supposed attackers

So the study counted as "rape" incidents not considered by the woman to have been rape?

If that's the case it was an odd study. I would think a bottom line requirement for rape would be that the victim knew she had been raped.

And that sounds reasonable to me.

I am not sure where this fits. Some women seek a man who is a take charge and persuasive type. They consider men who do not persist with friskyness in the face of a cold shoulder to be unworthy wimps. Not that I know of any particular women or men like this but then I hear stories; and I am glad that I'm too old to mix into the fray.

The point being that a woman may have shunned advances for a while only to happily succumb later. The next morning she may be in a different mood. Is it rape or not?
