Re: Any design wins for AlGimme products today?

You're even less coherent than usual, but if you were asking about new AMD product design wins, Compaq is incorporating Nvidia's new AMD-only high performance chipsets into its product line, and:

Racer Series - Quad2000
(4 Athlon MP 2000+ CPUs in a 1U form factor)

The racer product lines is a high performance solution ideal for scientific computing and rendering applications. They are cooled with Angstrom's bCool technology, enabling these industrial servers to operate well within AMD specifications. Angstrom Quad2000 provides the greatest density of CPUs on the market today (168 processors in a rack).

Server Highlights
1. Excellent space-saving capability
a. 4 CPUs in 1U form factor
b. Can rack up to 168 Athlon MP 2000+ CPUs in a 42U rack
c. Achieves the highest processing density among all currently available rackmount servers.
2. Ease of deployment
a. Cuts deployment time in half (reduced handling, lower weight than comparable two 1U dual AMD servers)
3. Unparalleled cooling ability attained through our super-cool aerodynamic design
a. Withstands ambient temperature in excess of 90°F

System Specification
Technical Specification:
Form Factor 1U (29.5" x 16.75" x 1.75")
Processor 4 Athlon MP 2000+ processors
RAM (max) Up to 8 GB of PC2100 DDR
Max Storage Up to 320GB IDE storage
Drive Controller IDE or SCSI
Peripherals CDROM
Graphics 2 Video Ports
Communications 2 Serial ports, up to 2 10/100 Ethernet NICs
Environment Supports Linux, Windows, FreeBSD

Service Specification:

1. Pre-installation of software and operating system
2. Deployment services
3. 24x7x365 client support

Angstrom's Value to Your Business

Angstrom specializes in providing ultra-dense, high-performance servers to clients with super computing needs . We have deployed thousands of servers worldwide to clients in the scientific computing and rendering industries. Some of our clients include Akamai, Rhythm & Hues, CIS Hollywood and Instinet. All have traditionally enjoyed Angstrom's impeccable service and exceptional quality : (defect rate less than 0.5%). Our revolutionary Quad2000 Athlon MP 1U server has been developed to meet our client's eager requests for servers with greater processing power in less space. Its feature sets are one-of-a-kind and world class.

Mostly white box sales to fast growing small and medium sized businesses, but who'd want to be well positioned there? Clearly, not Intel...

AMD boasts of corporate gains - Eating into Intel's pie
By Paul Hales, 14/03/2002 12:28:53 BST

AMD HAS GAINED MARKET SHARE from arch rival Intel according to figures publiched by Gartner Dataquest. The reseach firm says AMD's market share grew from 18 per cent in 2000 to 22 per cent in 2001.
Particularly pleasing to Tweedle-dum will be news that it has made inroads into the corporate sector. Gartner says AMD gained 17 per cent in the US small business desktop sector in 2001 and increased medium business desktop market share from 11 per cent to 28 per cent. AMD can also claim gains from 12 per cent to 17 per cent in the US education market and says its government sector presence doubled to 32 per cent.

In a statement, Ed Ellett, AMD marketing VP claimed the figures confirmed the correctness of AMD's commercial planning. He hyped AMD's next key to the corporate safe would be the Hammer.

"AMD's momentum continues into 2002 with our recent demonstration of our next generation processor, codenamed Hammer," he said. "We expect to begin shipping the first version of the Hammer family of processors at the end of 2002." µ

* AMD today announced a deal with Compaq to ship an Athlon-based Presario system sporting nVidia's integrated graphics chipset nForce. The system is aimed at home and small business users, the company said.

Re: Blow Boy Dan - Any design wins for AlGimme products today?

Apparently, intelmb.com - the site dedicated to Intel motherboard news and reviews, runs on an Athlon 1.33GHZ overclocked to 1.4GHZ. 7x24.

I met the guy from SavingXoom since he lives by me and I had to get another PSU. As far as their power supplies go they are AMD/P4 approved and they cost anywhere from 10-30 bux. For the exact same shit down the street at Fry's Electronics you'd pay 60-150. True you don't have the same power rails, but I have my 30 dollar 400watt PSU with my AMD Athlon XP 1600+ OC'd at 1.53ghz (AbitKr7a-raid) as well as an AMD Athlon 1.33ghz Server Asus A7v133a(24/7 operation) at 1.4ghz and I have had absolutely no problems with them. I have however built a system for my family with the same power supply which died after three months (No OC'in for the family, they just want it to work) and SavingXoom replaced it, no fuss, no hassles the new one has been working happily for many months. It's nice to have the top of the line power supply, but sometimes it's just not warranted.

P.S. I don't know who Pricewatch is owned by and can't find any good info on Google. I don't believe it's Compaq though :P
