As long as we have functioning steel plants, I know we can supply the needed materials for war if necessary. If they close, I have to hope that the freetraders are right. I go with my version. Protect our vital industries. I don't care if that upsets college professors.

Re: One thing about tariffs is, they harm the well-being(sure, both economic and cultural, if anyone wishes, truly) of the populace.

So, by your logic, steelworkers and the white collar workers of the companies they work for are not part of the populace. Have I got this about right?
