albert, I see what you are saying. Basically, AMD lost market share when you consider the entire x86 market, and given the unit numbers from Intel and AMD. On the other hand, since Jerry "Used Car Salesman" Sanders is so good at misleading his investors, he'll use "Windows-based desktop" shipments, instead of total x86 shipments, to make it look like he's still gaining share.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Albert,

Re: " ... However, market-share figures quoted by analysts from Gartner Dataquest
and Mercury Research Inc. indicated that AMD actually lost market share in the last
quarter of 2001 ..."

Albert, could it be that AMD has "optimized" the "wrong thingy" ??!! <ggg>
Please let AMD in on your "double secret" optimization "strategy". It
could save them in future quarters. <ggg>

Make It So,

Ref < AMD stated that Windows-based desktop shipments grew from 18 percent in 2000 to 22 percent in 2001 >

Why are we not talking about the total x86 market since AMD products are supposed to compete in all x86 market segments ?

Total x86 market = Windows based Desktop market +
Windows based Laptop market +
Linux based Desktop market +
Windows based Server market +
Linux based Server market +
X Box market
