Z, what have the Israelis done to deserve the West's largesse?

Well for one thing they are the only democracy in the area.

And even just what you mentioned, that their culture is more westernized means that in a way we are more connected to them.

Also the US has security agreements and a history of years of friendship with Israel.

And last but not least, Israel doesn't have as a formal part of its basic law or constitution that it will destroy any other country in the region.

Ted,

Re: "Z, what have the Israelis done to deserve the West's largesse?"

Ted, I think it had something to do with the way Europe and the West
turned a "blind-eye" during the Holocaust. The state of Israel was established
with the commitment from the West that another "Holocaust" would NOT be
allowed to happen again.

Re: "The Arabs/Muslims make up 1/3 of this world ..."

Great statistic Ted ... Only problem is that the majority of them
don't even reside in the Mideast. (Largest muslim nation is Indonesia (~300million).

Make It So,

>Z, what have the Israelis done to deserve the West's largesse? The fact that there culture is more westernized
than the Arabs.......does that make them special to us?

Ummm... they don't kill civilians on purpose, and they don't oppress their own people or use them as pawns. They're also a democracy. All of that is way more than I can say for most of the Arab states.

>The Arabs/Muslims make up 1/3 of this world. I think its in our best interest to see if there are ways to improve our relationship with them, don't you?

Actually, it's more like 1/5, but that's nitpicking (sorry)...

Why would one want a good relationship with bad guys?
