This post of yours, explaining Memento, is a real hoot to read if you don't know the names of the characters. Man was that plot convoluted, eh?

"The clearest indication that Leonard's account of his wife's death is true is that he is not locked up, as Sammy was. But that is not solid enough to be sure........"

Leanard had exposed Sammy as an insurance fraud. That is why Sammy was locked up. Why would Leanard be locked up for innocently injecting his wife with an over dose of insulin at her request?

This supports Teddy's explanation.

Thank you so much for going to all that trouble to try to clarify things. I feel like getting the movie from Blockbuster again with the Cliffs notes from you and Jewel to help me this time, because too much of it has faded for things to come together.

One thing that puzzles me is how they raised the money to make this movie. Was the plot line explicated to prospective investors as it has been here by you and Jewel? Were puzzled questions entertained? Or did people invest simply on some high concept idea of a murdered wife and grieving husband with short term memory loss and visually startling tattoos, without trying to dispel the murk?

Edit:

This is Jewel's analysis!:
