Big GOP lie that Gore said he invented the internet. Part of the 2000 smear campaign. The quote is "I and others in congress took the initiative to create the internet". The word "create" was a bit much but the real inventers of the internet give Gore full credit for spear-heading the crucial federal support and compliance with the "information superhighway" which is was then called. Remember in the 1992 campaign Gore voiced his vision about the "information superhighway"? Was anyone else talking about it? Gore does deserve credit and should have defended himself much more strenuously during the campaign. Gore's refusal to defend himself, claim credit and go after Bush was his downfall. People want to se a fighter. Gore was also attacked by Nader from the left which cost him the election.

Ann: Not addressed to you, but my opinion is Gore is a follower not a leader. He is lacking in good judgement and frankly I even question his mental prowness. I think he would have been a DISASTER with the current state of affairs. I seriously doubt the American Public is going to dump Bush unless something terrible happens beyond our current ability to see. Where these people get the idea Bush benefits from Enron etc is beyond me. Seems to me he is the person benefitting LEAST from that situation. jdn
