TV: Informative post. Thank you. Can't see how the 2.4 and above is going to do them any good without RMBS. By the way this point from the RMBS board is of note:

Analysts say Intel's server chips are 50 percent more profitable than Pentium PC processors, and shipments may grow twice as fast in coming years as PC demand levels off.

Intel's Barrett Turns to Server Chips to Grow Outside Pentium

"Server sales are starting to rebound after a yearlong slump. Revenue from Intel's older Xeon chips is beating targets, the Santa Clara, California-based company said last month. Xeon, the best seller in Intel's server lineup, accounts for more than 95 percent of server chips the company sells, analysts say."

Tony, Re: "Note that according to this data if Intel simply sticks with the 2.8Ghz plan for Q4 and misses the 3.0Ghz goal, they will still lead hammer performance by about 10%."

Sounds a little too good to be true. I'll believe it when I see it, but at the rate AMD has been heading, it's almost believable. For their sake, Hammer better perform a lot better than these figures are indicating.

Re: entered the data for the 22 benchmarks Tom used...

A bunch of different versions of simple-image / low-resoution Quake runs and what else?

Hammer is forecast to approach a Spec Int of 1400, which would leave P4 3GHZ so far behind that you'd actually be able to see a difference in everyday applications.
