Hi Neo, You've given the government party line in three sentences. I'll go through a post on each of the items with a POV not espoused by the administration:

"Determined populace" is a carefully-constructed phrase. See my prev post on 12 words used in official government media communications.

Actually, the populace is "determined" not to get blown up. Americans don't know what to do, have been given no role in the administration's plans, other than the role of "targets".

As such, they are answering poll questions with anything that may take that big circle off of the cities and shopping malls. So far, since the government has told everyone they may be nuked any moment, they have been told of no other option but to continue the war overseas, and the only reaction would be to vote "yes, please do what you can". Meanwhile, any crack in that credibility will crater the administration's support if people think there is any other option that they weren't told about.

"succeed against our foes"

Who are our "foes" exactly? Apparently it isn't limited to Al Qaeda, but could be anybody that has anybody that has blown anything up, or threatened to blow anything up or politically controls land that has anybody that has blown anything up. It isn't necessary to prove anything, or even capture the leader like OBL, or conduct thorough investigations, or hold criminal trials. The decision is unilateral and executive, and secret.

This isn't a country but an amorphous ill-defined group of people and organizations, with no requirement to disclose names.

Even those who have had complete trust and faith in the administration get a little nervous when names are not disclosed of those apprehended, and when the entire world is a target for American retribution directly (axis of evil) and in ventures with other governments who have their own agendas on their own soil, like France, England, Russia.

"succeed"

In this campaign, what is the definition of "success"?

We know militarization of both our economy and the industrialized and non-industrialized world is underway, but in actual fact, a definition of "success" has not been made.

The administration accepts terrorism on our soil as lasting for our lifetime. So, how do we know when the goals of these many hundreds of billions of dollars and unknown numbers of lives have been achieved?
