Original Mad Dog, thanks a pile for your enquiry. here is the link I had provided on another thread to Lorne, for which he mentioned that he is going through. Please feel free to post your thoughts on it. I am a non-Muslim and I try to read and understand all religions.

The claim that whatever translation you happen to be reading is not correct is a Red Herring. Translations that have been around for decades are all of a sudden "innaccurate" translations if you listen to the terrorist sympathizers. They had no problem with the translations until people actually started reading them and asking difficult questions.

It's an easy way for them to avoid discussing potentially unpleasant tenets of their religion. You quote something from the translation, they tell you its wrong, and when pressed on the "true" meaning, they respond with a watered down version, usually followed by a lengthy explanation of how it should be interpreted which they have conveniently pulled out of their ass. Of course, you and I could never understand what they "really" mean since you and I don't speak Arabic.

Unfortunately, they seem to forget that the people who made the translations spoke Arabic quite well. If they have a problem with the translations they need to take it up with the authors and the publishers. Go ahead and read any translation you like. You will never get a consistent answer about which translation is accepted because they would prefer that you didn't really know what is in the book anyway. They want blind, unthinking, acceptance. Just like they get from Afghanis who don't speak Arabic and just memorize words and repeat them back in a trance.

Original Mad Dog. You asked...." Is there an accepted version or translation of the Koran on the Internet? It seems like every time someone asks about something that is supposedly in there, it is blasphemy. Where does one go to actually read the Koran free from the "propaganda" sites? "....

There is an SI thread that was set up to discuss islam.
It is called understanding islam and it is not a pro muslim thread. There is a person there who has made a study of islam and can answer most questions.
Amein went there a few times but is now afraid of the honesty and is afraid to go back. This would be a good site for chinufso to learn about islam but I think he would also be afraid. anyway it was a good place to discuss islam.
