I thoroughly enjoyed the match, both teams fought hard, plenty of drama, and I have to admit, the Irish boys have picked up a considerable amount of skill over the past decade. The Spanish arquero was very impressive, as was the sight of Hierro pulling Quinn's jersey up over his head, LOL.

The egotistical little ManU p***k who walked away from his teammates has got to be kicking himself, he could have made a real difference today.

Spain 3 ~vs~ 2 Ireland (1 - 1) PK 3 - 2

My my... Spain sweated to win this one. I think the "luck of the Irish"almost gave them the win.

I am not too sure about the plan the Spaniards chose to play this game was the best. Both teams certainly played hard, Spain needed that second goal to put it away, but it never came, then they substituted Raul and Morientes, assuming they had won the game --a tad early... as the penalty in the last minute tied the game for Ireland... then in extra times with an injured player, they simply played to finish for the penalties... kind of dangerous as the Irish could have scored (and nearly did).

The penalties, given the circumstances under which Spain was playing, seemed to be the strategy to go for as they seemed to have the experience... Until they too missed a couple... but the last PK was executed well and gave Spain the edge over Ireland --just barely-- by one penalty.

Without question, the hero here is Casillas, who btw also stopped another PK during the regular game...

I enjoyed the game and for sure was a better thriller than many movies that pretend to be so. Although as usual, I hate seeing a game like this go to penalties, and so I would have liked for Spain to score in OT... however, I am not complaining about the result, as they are my favorites to win the cup -gg

p.s. now... I need a second opinion on that second penalty called against Spain... (since I may have a bias opinion as to whether it was really a penalty --see above -g)... so anyone have one ?
