Dell Maintains Guidance; CEO Says Business Is Good

..."I'm feeling very good about our business, and our business is doing well," Mr. Dell said Friday in an interview. "We haven't changed our guidance."

The comments come in stark contrast to the recent warnings from Apple Computer Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Intel Corp. that a lackluster computer market seems to have worsened.

Those warnings, beginning with cautionary statements from H-P on June 4 and continuing this week with reduced guidance from Apple and AMD, have helped fuel a slide in many computer-related stocks. Dell shares have fallen about 11% so far in June, based on Thursday's close, while Apple shares are off 27% and H-P shares are off 13%.

But Mr. Dell said Friday that he hasn't witnessed any similar falloff in computer demand. "Not at all," he said. "Business is good."...
