Perhaps practicality should be considered here. You and I are heavily outnumbered. And this is something a fair fraction of our opponents feel strongly about. You're gonna lose this one. The only real question will be what do you lose with it? Throw them a bone and they will leave us alone. And as both CR and I pointed out, reciting the pledge is not mandatory and cannot be made mandatory according to the USSC. At least according to their last decision in 1943. Do you really want to roll the dice again and see what they will say now? Or 10 years from now?
