How do you distinguished privileged from very privileged?
Or is that privileged?
;-)

Very few of the privileged are pushing vouchers - they already have what they want.

And yes, you are fortunate that you apparently have a choice about your medical care. Most people do not have that luxury. Because they do not, and because of a history of rampant fraud and abuse, the regulations are much stricter now than in the past and private insurance carriers found it necessary to change their contracts as well.

If you are debating paying doctor's bills out-of-pocket without reimbursement you are very privileged indeed, whether you think so it an entirely different matter ;-).

Paying the doc full freight seems fraught with full fright.
You would seem to be at the mercy of not only your personal physician but every diagnostic center under the sun.

One of the great advantages of good insurance is that every test or procedure is capped at a negotiated price. So, if I have some exotic (or not so exotic) X-ray done, the insurance company may pay, say, $38 whereas the billed amount may be $350. Bottom line, if you pay your own way, your price may be much higher than the insured's price.

Be careful before deciding to take care of your own med bills.
