It's pretty bad when Slate, SLATE!, is commenting on the NYT slide.

It's worse than I thought

When you compare the two stories, the Times slanting is really blatant. I have not seen them go this far before. Also, their big expose of Cheney this week has nothing to it. I have read a couple of commentators mentioning that there is no there, "there"

. . . at a time of growing concern among Americans that the NYT is moving rapidly toward becoming a full-scale advocacy publication, all the while continuing to pretend otherwise and benefit from the reputation it earned in earlier days. ...

I love that line, "growing concern among Americans." The pr of choice seems to be something like, start a campaign to frame the NYTimes as a left wing publication, have all your right wing friends write about it every time they get a chance. Then, once there's a bit of print out there, read, generally, only by other right wing readers, you try to ratchet up the claims by saying "growing concern among Americans."

Fun and games in the political wars. Nothing to do with serious journalism.

Just to note that the Times is not one voice, read Robert Pears take on the Senate comings and goings over the past two days. Items that could be framed as senatorial gridlock are framed as a Daschle loss.

Also read the Times editorial page today, when it cranks up yet another attack on Hillary Clinton. Hardly the work of left wing ideologues.
