2nd, ...Yes, "widespread gloom" is a bit over the top type of statement. As for banking, investment, and the Neuer, ...I agree with you. As for unemployment, welfare, and taxes, ...it is a case of total reform that is needed.

How many of the unemployed persons do want to work? I keep reading articles, (that I have not posted,) that indicate that the German "Work Ethic" has got up and went! You have the problem from the east of a couple of generations of Germans who grew up under Communism. In the west you have the continued cut in hours of work, and increase in reasons to take off. Add to this the "Euro" command economy, and bureaucracy, and long term looks bad.
