Nope. Few people are satisfied with basic needs. People want more. Societies want more. Just look at your local supermarket and tell me that all people care about are their basic needs.

Wars are fought because people want jewels, exotic teas, more land to settle in than they need for their basic needs, etc., etc.

Basic needs don't cut it. Never have, never will.

Was it flawed, or was it flawed because it made you unhappy? Do unproductive people deserve to make good money? You could argue no, and make a darned good argument. But for you personally the model was flawed because it made you unhappy, and you decided you wanted to be happy. If you want to be unhappy the model would have been perfect for you, right?
