Welcome, kh, thanks for stopping by. Help yourself to anything you'd like from the buffet.

I managed to tune in AI for the first (and I guess last) time at the precise moment when the two finalists were standing there waiting with baited breathlessness to see who was going to win. I don't know how long that tease went on.....it lasted about a minute or so after I turned on the set. Then the winner was announced, and a song came on and through her excitement the winner managed to belt out the occasional note in tune. She had some talent, though I can't say I am in a hurry to buy the single. <g>

I also refrained from watching Survivor until the last episode, which I saw in its entirety. TV is far more creatively mediocre than it was when I was a puppy.

I didn't know about the automated voting. I just knew about redial, to do which one has to use one's own finger twice, once to disconnect, once to hit redial.

Your idea to vote for the one you want to boot seems good. Though maybe people would vote to boot the best singers that aren't their favorite, so as to eliminate the competition. On Big Brother, two things make you vulnerable, one is if you're disliked, the other is if you are a seen as a strong candidate to win in the end.

Also, I should think it would be to the advantage of the station in terms of selling advertising to be able to say "We had over a hundred million calls." Even if it doesn't translate to viewers. I noted that last night one of the announcers said "over a hundred million callers," an untrue statement; and when he returned, he said the same thing substituting "calls."

I can not BELIEVE how much I have to say on these matters!

Speaking of which, I don't like Roddy any more.

That would have been a great idea: to vote to dump rather than for a winner. And perhaps to charge something small per call, like 50 cents. That's discourage repeat callers and they could donate it to charity.
