Wow, that was certainly letting Ollie have it with both barrels! Confirms my own impression of Ollie from the Iran-contra hearings (I haven't followed his career much since), that here was a man of whom you could never answer the question, "Does he know when he's lying?"

David Hackworth on Oliver North

Yeah, I have read this piece before. Hack does not like him, that's for sure. Just remember that the top Army people I have read do not like Marines, and Hack was known as "Mister Infantry." They went after him for his gambling when he blew the whistle in Nam. They almost did the same thing to him that Congress tried to do to Ollie.

North was in way over his head running these "ops", but he wasn't a wild card. He was reporting what he was doing. The top White House People knew about it.

Maybe one of these days you will be able to look back on what went on, and take your partisanship out of it. I find that I am changing my mind on a good bit of recent History, as I get older and look at it without the political passions that I had at the time. I am now a lot more forgiving about "Ollie."

What a find, Win. I was just about to head out for other activities when I spotted this post. I generally skim the Hackworth stuff that Bill posts so I started doing the same. But got caught up in it. Now I'm late.

Fascinating.
