I actually do have people who do that!

I hated Latin while I was taking it, but it's a good thing to have studied.

Mrs. Hensel, my Latin teacher, was at least 6'6" tall, (I think she was closer to seven feet, but it seems impossible so I brought it down) and everyone was utterly terrified of her. If she asked you a question and you didn't know the answer, she would sit and wait for an unbelievably long time (probably three mins, but it felt like an hour) as you sat there in silence. The worst punishment possible. I read about the disease, or syndrome, which some doctors now think Abraham Lincoln had, and realized that that is what Miss Hensel had, poor woman.

She looked like Lincoln in drag, only it's a much better look for a man than a woman. She had a very, very deep voice. She towered above all the other teachers, and even the basketball players. She had her clothes made especially for her, all from the same pattern, but in different fabrics. She spent a lot of time in front of the class with one hand down the front of her dress. She would start by straightening a bra strap, and move down. This was a peculiarity that still can't explain and would cause episodes of barely-controlled hysteria among her students. She could speak, yes speak, Latin fluently, and went to conferences at which only Latin was spoken.

She wasn't married, of course.

I wonder if now that the internet exists, she would have been able to find someone. Somehow. Maybe there is a Marfan's support group.

Wow. I just checked. There is! There are a lot of them. The internet is wonderful. Now those unfortunate people don't have to feel so isolated.
