I'll bet they thought that about the Cole, too.

I doubt Iraq will be alone if we go after them without a UN resolution. Some of the countries do have subs in addition to air forces.

And sinking just one carrier is a multibillion dollar loss. Plus potentially thousands of lives.

My take is that carriers have about 25 support ships around them. Not an easy target. He didn't get any last time.
