Hmmmmm...... I would say time, the fading of memory, and that rosy glow the past often acquires have lent those "adventures" an attraction that they didn't have at the time and wouldn't have now if you had to repeat them.

Things haven't gotten worse for you. They've gotten better.

Perhaps something to be kept in mind.

The good old days are now.

Nice story! The furniture was lucky to survive that episode! I did quite a bit of wood chopping while growing up--and then for about 2 years in my mid-twenties. So I identify with that "There's no What Is The Meaning Of It All".

I love Frost's "Two Tramps in Mud-time" which captures some of my memories, as well as posing some serious questions such as are casually examined here...
