Right Wing extremists (not necessarily Republican but even hard core traditional Soviet Communists) fortunately seem to have had hubris in abundance. That is why Louis XIV France, 19th century England and the Soviet Union rarely lasted a century. The point is: When will this new version of US imperialism implode? After next month's congressional elections or longer?

I don't know the term used for religious paranoids but you certainly fit the bill.

Not all conservatives are religious just as not all liberals are rapists.

The banning of guns or abortions makes for an interesting moral equivalency test. These issues are the most controversial and polarized items on the voters agenda. I think we'd be surprised at their ability to sway votes.
