Seriously, they are claiming that they will sell a lot more chips this quarter than last, and they see business picking up in general. On the other hand, INTC was very down beat

Possibilities

1 - AMD is blowing hot air.

2 - Intel is being conservative (maybe both 1 and 2)

3 - Intel stuffedthe channel and so expects lower demand next Q.

4 - (perhaps least likely but the best for AMD) Both Intel and AMD think AMD will be in a better competitive position in the next Q.

5 - AMD anticipates getting or has gotten a big order from one of the box makers.

Any other ideas?

Tim

Ted, I think AMD stuffed the channel in Q2 and thus had to let it drain out in Q3. Plus they're trying to get higher-speed (and thus higher ASP) parts out, but it's obvious that they're having production problems with them.

I think their upbeat Q4 forecast is based on less inventory and an aim toward solving those production problems. And like I said in my previous message, with a huge miss in Q3, anything that is better than the toilet is great news.
