my goodness, everywhere i look i see bears not pulling the trigger because they're scared of a quick run to 1400+, while nobody but nobody in my "casual trader" circle of friends is interesting in putting more money into the market because they have - finally! - become gunshy from all the failed rallies.

was it jeff who said most bears would end up missing the final leg down?

Life is so simple. People are people regardless of the year and they always act in their own self interest. As I've said before, this current manipulation ties into the November elections.

It had to be done. Last week, 401k reports for the 3rd Quarter came out for most companies. Without a quick, significant upward move, fed-up 401k investors would have thrown in the towel and cashed out. Money managers responded and bought. Now, 401k investors are paralyzed: they're asking "Is this the end of the bear market?" Money managers can now hold-off on selling a portion of their portfolios to meet redemptions.

The latest move involves institutions, not retail buyers. Why would individual investors buy? What could possibly be the impetus? Until the retail investor returns, the bear market is fully intact.
