And it is a return (in the sense of a full circle). This is what US foreign policy was like before the Soviet Union forced us into a continuous (cold) war of 40 years. Re: "Why don't we just surrender?" Another sound bite argument. Surrender is not an option because there is no one to surrender to. "Retreat" is not the same as "surrender", unless you're convinced that the US "surrendered" in Vietnam. If you are confused about what the word "surrender" means, I suggest you look through the historical record and see what happens with countries that surrender: (1) Our government would be eliminated, or, at least, could only serve at the pleasure of the people we surrender to. (2) Our country would be subject to occupation, or perhaps some parts of it would be signed over to the enemy. (3) We would be required to agree to keep our military budget or size under constraints. (4) We might have to agree to paying an indemnity. (5) Our soldiers and leaders might be brought up on charges of war crimes. None of these things are threatened, there is no "surrender" required. -- Carl

Why don't we just surrender? Sounds good.. How about Leichtenstein?? Or Belize?? I would love to be occupied by Belize and have the ability to live down there... Canada?? Nah... they're too busy surrendering to Quebec.. :0) Btw, the Chechen's couldn't have picked a WORSE time to execute this attack on the Moscow theater... You can be pretty sure that the US will trade a "carte blanche" in Chechnya for a "carte blanche" for in Iraq. The "giants" may be commencing a "walk about" in the undeveloped muslim world... If the Chechens engage in a massacre, it will push Russia over the edge and into a war footing that will even more brutal than experienced by the Chechens before. It will be Russia's "9/11"... Hawk
