Eurozone dodgy: Message 18176758

What's wrong with being anti-American? They are, to coin a phrase, a strategic competitor. They are interested only in their interests if we believe what they say and do .

So, when one doesn't have parallel interests, one can assume they will do you in the eye rather than be nice and ethical. That's what 'interests' means. Speaking of dogs, the big dog sets the rules and if they declare it is to be a dog eat dog world, then they should not be surprised when there's a lot of barking and biting. Even big dogs get bitten in such melees. Lots of little dogs might even make life tough for a big dog.

Nevertheless, I've got a Tonka Truckload of US$ and QUALCOMM stock, so I'm not all that much anti-American. In fact, I think Uncle Al KBE is great! Contrary to popular ideas these days of people who need to blame somebody for their poor ability in investing.

Mqurice the Liberal [well, somebody has to take the unpopular line against the foaming at the mouth neocons].

zonder...I'm curious....What companies/industries, both in the US and worldwide, do you see will have both employment and financial growth for the next 5-10 years?

We have done very well this year, owing to the decision to not hold a single long position and keep selling calls on tech stocks :) Now I am looking at financial and retail stocks to short, on the weakness of the consumer sentiment, the former strength of which, incidentally, was the only thing keeping the American economy going in the year 2002. The USD looks pretty weak as well, but can't decide for now if I want to play the USD/EUR, USD/GBP or USD/JPY angle.

Not sure if we want to go into a telecom investment on the other side of the world for now.

Got a "tip" from a marketing guy who works in Telecom.. He seems to believe that SBC and some of the other competitors in the sector, is playing hardball with deregulation legislation, refusing to spend money on capital expenditures until they see deregulation passed...

But he believes that sometime in 2003 they will be forced to do it and the game of political "chicken" will end and telecom spending will resume.
