not given to genocide to maintain empire, contrary to popular mythology. Whose mythology is THAT????? My impression is that Britain lost India because they wouldn't (illegally) kill one man. If they have a fault these days in this area, it's being too d*ned civilized. They had the largest empire in history- -and they gave it away. Who else has done such a thing? So I take NZ got independence without having to shoot any redcoats? :-) Hence the missionary emphasis bringing the ethics of modernity to replace the cannibalistic barbarisms of the stone age.* Ah, yes, those "unique" ingredients bland is referring to. :-)
