>>>That's why I advise Medigap policies<<<

Sounds like sound advise for Americans, but we " freeloading Canadians " are not subject to the same costs, however we pay on average about 500 dollars a year into the healthcare system. ( this varies by Province )

What are the Premiums on Medigap?

PS: Sorry to hear about your Mom.

Medicare doesn't pay for 100% of everything.

I went into the Kaiser HMO here in the islands with a little trepidation, but I have been pleasantly surprised. It is $72 a month on top of medicare, plus $8 per visit with reduced prescriptions. The care has been terrific. It is going to "bump up" of course, but I am prepared to have it double over the coming years.

Let's play devil's advocate...You advise Medigap policies for folks but didn't tell YOUR OWN MOTHER???? She "can't pay", so who do you think will? While using your mom as a cautionary tale, you leave it to the rest of us to foot her unpaid bill in the form higher insurance premiums.

FYI...Cuba has free medical care for everyone, and it's warm there. You can put your mom on a boat and start a reverse trend!!!!

Disclaimer...stories like your indigent mother's are why I feel our healthcare fails.
