Karen,

Didn't the calendar illustrate that the California crisis occurred under Clinton? And that most of its tax-free years were under that administration?

Why aren't more senior Democrats hunting on this one? Because they have their own - Global Crossing.

I would also like to get back to the heyday of the bubble economy, but really - did you think the tulips would last forever? Clinton benefited greatly from the bubble, if at had burst even a year earlier - there would not have been any forgiveness for his character issues.

Now in fairness - did Clinton cause the bubble - no. Both sides are guilty of stretching the importance of the Presidency on the economy.

John

William suggested folks stop using their telephones.
Reality bites. So does responsibility. But responsible adults do what they have to do to get through a situation. The world doesn't owe you or I a living.

I mentioned that Enron was able to gouge folks charging exorbitant rates for energy that wasn't there.
OK. Enron committed some crimes and deserves all it gets in the way of punishment. Lay hopefully will have many years of staring at cold grey walls to think about what he did. But Ken Lay and Enron are not responsible for all the poverty in CA. Most of it was present before he and it were ever heard of.
And tech always has been a cyclical industry. We're in another valley. Just like we were in a valley in '92 when Clinton took office. And in the early '80s. And in the early '70s.
So what's new?

This hurts these people, too. Life under Bush is exponentially worse than it was with Clinton as President.
OF COURSE IT IS! That '90s bubble was the biggest bubble in living memory. Probably worse than '29. When bubbles burst, there is wreckage all over the place.

FDR inherited a collapsed bubble. It took WW2 to get out of it. When you're ready to condemn him and his policies, we can discuss this.

Actually people at the lower end of the scale pay relative to income, a lot more.
They do? I remember IRS collection statistics indicating that on the average tax collected as a percentage of income rises with income. As is to be expected with graduated tax.

They don't get to drive company vehicles for which all the insurance and fuel is paid or fly back home for a visit...write off when they stop at a client's etc, etc.
Uh, and has this to do with the average employee of a corporation? Or the average manager in most corporations? That's for the few at the top and for some in special [positions such as salesmen.
