CB, A good reply to Carl. If we stayed hunkered down in our home bunker, and only brought out our military when there was a consensus of an evil nation asking us to intervene, then we would be considered weak, and ineffective, which would invite all sorts of malcontents to take advantage of our "isolation".

Hi CobaltBlue; Re what I mean by "I'm in favor of isolationism in the sense of not having our military in places where it isn't wanted."

"Isn't wanted" means not wanted by the government or the people of the region. I don't need to define it further, it should be obvious. The local government will make its desires clear. As for the local people, you can rely on opinion polls, or in the absence, merely take note of whether or not they are shooting at us.

Re: "I realize you think you are dispassionate and wise ..."

True.

Re: "... so this post may offend you ..."

I didn't find your post at all offensive.

Re: "... but I think you are getting your boxers into a twist for no apparent reason."

My objection was to your misstating my opinions on a thread where people are trying to avoid flame wars. I feel a need to not let people put false words into my mouth, but I also don't want to potty up the FADG thread. Bringing it over is fine with me. (And by the way, I don't wear boxers, so I can't get them into a twist.)
