As of July 31 of this year there had been 299 murders in the city of Los Angeles. Latest #'s from LA. "Gangland murders have contributed to the rise in our murder rate, but its too early to say that these are the only factor." I agree, it is a real problem. Focusing on white lunatics at Columbine is not the most productive way of addressing the problem. We need to find a way to assimilate the folks in the ghettos and barrios into the dominant culture, so that they are more interested in education than wielding guns. It is a tough problem, though. I personally think that after school activities for latchkey children, including tutoring for homework, would help a lot.........

drugs certainly contribute to murder rate... white suburban folks driving into the city to get their weekly supply does not help the situation...So I kind of think maybe white class contribute to murder rate , if they were not buying drugs in large quantities perhaps the incentive to fight over the money for these drugs would not be there. Yup, la. has it gangs,, as well as chicago, boston, nyc philly etc.. but drugs, the money and the twisting of these users minds contribute to a lot killings. On top of a social system problem we have yet to address,,, single parents or no parents and kids running wild .
