Fred,
I am just tired Fred. Alot going on--new job, new responsibilities and layoffs coming for employees on friday. Plus the arguments on SI amat thread that never end and are always the same.
Black and white may not be good but you can over-grey the world too. Thats what Zonder has done.
And yours and Cary's hatred of the Bushes and other posters hatred of the clintons clouds judgement as well.
For me back to work and a rest from all this until after 12/8. Lets see how iraq actually turns out. Will anyone on the anti bush side find it possible to admit that what he has done is brilliant if saddam actually gives up most or all the weapons without war? I can hope right. mike

Fred, Zonder did give an example of innocent killing with Pinochee of Chile and I give you one with Shah killing over 10000 (innocent civilians that were marching without even throwing stone) people in a single week in September 1978. I don't think 9/11 was bigger than the Jewish Holocast, Hiroshima and many other acts of human in history of man kind.

>>I have an obsession, however, that all black and white arguments are indefensible<<

FL: Interesting… You feel this way, and yet, when it comes to 9/11, you say that “9/11 is … evil and must be eliminated”.

How can you eliminate something, unless you see it in terms of black and white? -g/ng.

Zonder has trivialized 9/11

Not really. It was a great tragedy, as you have said, a "catastrophic attack on innocents", and I have nothing but deep sorrow and sympathy for the poor souls perished in those towers and especially their loved ones left behind.

What I tried to draw attention to was:
1) History did not begin on 11 Sept. 2001 - that is, it is erroneous to say "They attacked us out of the blue and there was no reason for it so they are madmen". America desperately needs to understand the reasons why 9/11 happened so that similar incidents can be avoided in the future.
2) 11 Sept. 2001 was the date Americans "discovered" terrorism, and we are all very happy about this awareness, but statements like "The world changed after 9/11" are true only for the "world" or North Americans.

When I was in PS 47 (elementary school), we learned that bacteria were plants. Now they are animals

I was taught that bacteria are neither plants nor animals but "prokaryotes" (DNA not enclosed in a nucleus). Some do photosynthesis but that's where any similarity to plants begin and end.

(I just realized how sad it is that I remember all this from high school biology <ggg> )
