I grew up in the South, whatever Strom was AT THE TIME was actually pretty normal for ANY politician of ANY party. I seriously doubt he was a NAZI TYPE. Remember, this guy is SO OLD that we are talking maybe 50 years ago. I didnt actually hear Lotts speech but he is such a soft pedal type of guy I doubt it was too harsh. Probably something made out of nothing as the Washington Press Corps just hasnt had any GOOD SCANDALS lately to discuss. JDN

Strom Thurmond has made amends. Not a peep out of Lott yet clarifying his remarks. If Republicans don't demand he step aside, or at least get an explanation, they deserve to get trounced in 2004. Expecting the issue to quietly go away isn't going to happen. In addition to the obvious moral shortcomings, his comments will be used as a campaign issue. He is unfit to lead and needs to go now.
