You may be right that America owes its success to slavery but I have a lot of trouble buying it. I grew up very far away from where slavery was practiced. I have always thought of it as agrarian and southern and haven't seen the south as a great contributor to the welfare of the nation economically until long after slavery.

You'd have to make that case to me. I don't believe it. In fact I believe we'd all be richer if blacks had never been slaves on this continent.

But the benefits we all enjoy can be quite handily traced to the backs of slaves. Without them, America would by no means at all be the land of prosperity it is.

you are nuttier than a fruitcake.

I could just as easily make the case that slavery actually hindered the progress of industry in America because many things were slow to be invented since there were plenty of slaves to do the jobs that machines came to do.

You did not work for everything you have. Your ability to work and progress is traceable to slavery

Have you fallen out of a tree and hit your head? You must have gotten that out of some liberal psyche book. Do you think man did not know how to work until a slave showed him? GOD, not man, blessed mw with the ability to work, and I got paid an honest wage for that work, as did the man next to me.

but they must also pay. We all live in the same dang house.

pay who? pay how much? pay what? give me names. we pay every day with our taxes. Many paid with their lives to free the slaves. I suppose you need to pay a dead Union soldiers family 20 gazillion dollars for his lost heritage and ability to provide for his family and the kids he never had...on and on and on......

find your way back to reality. Now not only I have to pay, but the minorities have to pay too??....GEEEEEZ, Johannes, that is just called brotherhood, and yes Christian can and do help the helpless and feed the hungry, and etc etc....it is called being a good neighbor.....not reparations.

RE:Never said anything about paying a dang cent.

So what did you mean by "pay reparations" if money is not involved?

My father in law is white he actually was a slave in this life. Are you saying that a former slave held against his will for years in slavery owes a person who was born free reparations ? Are you saying that we should have a department of reparations ?
