Nadine.. I wonder if Saddam would be willing to unleash such a generally devastating disease throughout the Middle East (since Smallpox would NOT remain localized in the Jewish population, but be transmitted to the Palestinians as well)...

We, here in the US, need to fear this more since we're effectively isolated by oceans, thus reducing the chance of spreading it throughout other regions..

After all, if Saddam wants his place in history as an "arab avenger" against the Jews and US, he certainly doesn't want to have thousands of poor Arabs falling victim to this disease..

But then again, Saddam is reknowned for "miscalculating"..

What do you people make of this smallpox mania?

I mean, there a zillion different viruses and chemical agents out there. Inoculation of the entire population against smallpox does not seem to be very effective, nor smart, especially considering the scary side effects of the vaccine in 1/10,000 people.

If Saddam or some lunatic really wants to launch a biological attack, there is no way to know which one it will be.
