>>Now we have an imperfect but recovering Afghanistan, with its population increased by almost two million returned refugees. Have you ever seen or heard any of those smart-ass critics and cynics make a self-criticism? Or recant?<<

No, because those same critics and cynics argue that the US has failed in Afghanistan and it's a human rights disaster.

Peace is war. Victory is defeat. Freedom is slavery. You know them as well as I do, and so does Hitchens.

A pleasure to see them skewered so expertly.

There are at least three well-established reasons to favor what is euphemistically termed "regime change" in Iraq....

There are four, actually, the last one being a reason few people advance--Saddam's aborted plan to assassinate 41 when he visited Kuwait. I'm not sure exactly where this fits in, but I do know it can't be ignored.

PS: Loved Hitchens' piece--thanks for posting it.

Brilliant summation, but I disagree with one thing:

>>(And I shall add that any "peace movement" that even pretends to care for human rights will be very shaken by what will be uncovered when the Saddam Hussein regime falls. Prisons, mass graves, weapon sites... just you wait.)<<

They won't be shaken. It won't even register. They'll never bother to acknowledge it.
