Gina,
This world policeman stuff goes back a long ways. I have never believed the US should be the world policeman. Cops are disliked everywhere. No surprise that we should be resented abroad while all the good we did in bosnia, kosovo goes ignored.
My feeling is that Europeans should police Europe, Asians Asia. We have our hands full in our own part of the world witness Venezuala. A bit of this regional stuff is now going on in Korea with US blessing. The US should only intervene militarily as a last resort or when our superpower status and military arsenal is necessary for victory. Thats how i view iraq. Please see my last post on that topic. mike

PS converting to regional policing will take some time. It involves arming those folks adequately and thats a burden that particularly the europeans have been reticent in doing.
