Here are some things I liked from the movie. When Shaw handed off his personal items before the battle. It was as I had read somewhere--probably in a specific regimental history and possibly Emilio's book. So that may well have been authentic. Best of all, the 33rd USCT wore red trousers with their uniform--or lack of one. They were clad in those red trousers in the movie.

A nice regimental history of the 33rd--and not rare but scarce--is "Army Life in a Black Regiment" by its Colonel and an interesting fellow--Thomas Wentworth Higginson.
