It is not clear that the Palestinian Authority actively recruits children combatants. But what is the PA doing to discourage or punish such abuses against children?? And what about Arafat's encouragement of "child martyrs" and using PA schools to advance military training?? Here's one where Arafat calls for Palestinian children to be "shahids" (martyrs): pmw.org.il Arafat to children: “Oh, children of Palestine! The colleagues, friends, brothers and sisters of Faris Ouda [14 year old who died in the conflict]. The colleagues of this hero represent this immense and fundamental power that is within, and it shall be victorious, with Allah's will! Children respond, cheering and chanting: "Millions of Shahids marching to Jerusalem!" [PATV August 18, 2002] This is not the first time Arafat has expressed support for child Shahids. He has previously made clear the importance he attaches to having dead Palestinian children to show the world, saying the "greatest message to the world" was child Shahids ["Martyrs"]. The following is from an interview on PA TV in January, 2002: Hostess: "Mr. President, what message would you like to send to the Palestinian people in general and, particularly, to the Palestinian children?" Zonder... the major media outlets might "report" on how Palestinian child martyrdom is a part of their life, but I don't think they really discuss the systemic brainwashing to become martyrs that is involved in the daily life of a Palestinian child.. And it certainly isn't helped by this hero worship of suicide bombers... And you can bet the Israelis are going to report it.. if not emphasize it, because folks like you and I find such a practice utterly abhorrent and it proves effective in reducing Arafat's prestige.. Yes. It is not clear that the Palestinian Authority actively recruits children combatants. Extremist groups, very probably. PA, not sure about it. If you think Hamas runs PATV you are quite mistaken. I have cited several TV ads and shows that recruited child martyrs. The dead Mohammed al Dura invited little boys to follow him in shuhada. The Children's Hour had little girls singing of their plans to become suicide bombers while their teachers cried 'bravo'. Arafat sends letters of congratulation, and payments, to the family of martyrs. PA schools are plastered with posters of martyrs. How much evidence do you need before you will recognize it?
