are you saying that the French don't think that they are better than everyone else? or the Canadians? or the British?

The attitude isn't about being better, it is about being sick of being scapegoats.

Nobody is saying that Americans are better than anyone, especially on this thread. I believe that the common consensus is that there is equality from one country to another. There are always going to be illustrations of extreme ignorance or stupidity. What might be different in the US is that there exists a freedom of speech that leads to the publishing and exposure of more verifiable examples.

If we're so bad why are so many selling their souls to get here? I've seen my share of ugly Americans while overseas, but that doesn't mean we are scum in general. And I for one am tired of being lumped into that category.

I do think America is better than the rest of the world. So what's wrong with that. You think the Chineese think they aren't? Or the French? I think it's a normal feeling within limits. Every society has it's problems. The difference is most American's stick around to try and do something about theirs while the rest of the world prefer to come here and pull up to the trough and then bitch about everything.

I wish we could just leave the rest of the world to their own initiative personally. None of them have anything I need bad enough to endure the discord the exposure has brought with it.

i think the arrogance in this country stinks

While some arrogance exists in this country it's hardly universal. Arrogance has always struck me as a type of stupidity. It's so obviously self-correcting - a form of "Pride goeth before the fall". This is true in the market, and world politics.
