In other words, do nothing, stand back & let our western
ways seep slowly into their lands over the next few
years/decades. Meanwhile, the OBL's & Saddam's of the world
will gleefully expand their power, their global reach &
their WMD to be used against us. Instead of being
slaughtered by the thousands, we will be slaughtered by the
hundreds of thousands, then millions.

Oh, and if the Bush Administration had taken the path you
just described; You & your politically motivated peers
would have vehemently attacked that approach with a
different set of reasons why it was completely wrong in
order to gain political points for your party. Again,
history is replete with countless examples to support this
supposition.

OOF!

IMO, what is going to happen is that the war on global
terrorism will eventually hoist these goons on their own
petards. Then their followers will see that Allah was not
with these murderous thugs. The US & the coalition of the
willing will then do what we have always done. We will help
these people & these countries rebuild & allow them to
determine their own fate. And then we will leave. PERIOD!

And no, we are not going to impose that vast so-called
neo-con conspiracy for US global Imperialism/domination
either.

Time will bear this out IMVHO.

Allies warned to brace for violent Islamic backlash

By Mark Baker

March 13 2003

Jordan's most powerful Islamic opposition group has warned Australia and other countries backing a United States-led attack on Iraq that they face a violent backlash from across the Arab world.

The Islamic Action Front leader, Sheik Hamza Mansur, said Islamic groups throughout the Middle East would take up arms to defend Iraq, and the citizens of those countries which joined the attack were potential targets.

"This aggression will deepen the enmity and hatred of the sons of our [Arab] nation for your countries and governments," he said in a message to the leaders of Australia, Britain, Spain, Italy and Greece.

"It will threaten relations between our populations and the countries which support this unjust war that threatens stability and peace in the region and the world. That is why we call on you to refrain from backing this war or participating in it."

The warning comes amid mounting concerns within the Jordanian Government of violent domestic unrest once the war begins. Jordan, which is home to a large population of Palestinian and Iraqi exiles, is also bracing for a possible influx of more than a million Iraqi refugees once the fighting begins.

The opposition party leader's statement accused the US and its allies of sanctioning "blood for the sake of oil" and of seeking to to impose "hegemony on the populations".

"We believe that all the results of this war will have very harmful repercussions on the interests of your nations," he said, without specifying what those implications might be.

In a separate interview with Reuters, Sheik Mansur said even previously non-violent Islamic groups would join "resistance" to the attack on Iraq. "No one is calling for resistance with roses and flowers," he added.

He predicted that growing anti-American sentiment across the region could trigger revenge attacks on US citizens and other Westerners. "I fear that some Western civilians, through no fault of their own, will be hurt as a result of their governments' policies," he said.

Jordan's Islamic Action Front, while a mainstream political party, is closely aligned with Egypt's radical Muslim Brotherhood.

Sheik Mansur on Monday led a delegation to the embassies of Germany, Belgium and China in Amman to thank them for their anti-war positions. The IAF also sent messages to the leaders of France and Russia, who have signalled plans to veto any United Nations resolution opening the way for an attack on Iraq.

Sheik Mansur said that while Arab loyalties were divided during the 1991 Gulf war to liberate Kuwait, the Arab world was united in its opposition to a new war.

"The Arab street is not divided. Passions are much stronger than in 1991 as then there were differing views over Iraq's actions ... Now people are convinced that Iraq has not left any pretext for Washington to justify a war against it," he said.
