5000 years ago humans didn't have a slanted forehead or "ape-like characteristics". 500,000 years ago maybe. And 50,000 years ago there was still some non homo-sapiens species like the Neanderthals and possibly the Homo Erectus, various accounts give the date for their end as anywhere from 300,000+ yeas ago to as little as 27,000 years ago.

there would be those who believe that humans simply appeared on earth in their present physical and intellectual form

Yes some people believe that, but I am not one of them. I said that 1000 or even 10,000 years ago our physical and intellectual form was very similar to what it is today. But before that it was different.

You do not see language, art, conceptual awareness, or the sublimation of brutal instincts and values as representative of a change in our ideas or feelings, the nature of our consciousness and how we interface with our environment?

We had language, art, conceptual awareness, agriculture, cities, organized societies, and sublimation of brutal instincts, 1000, 5000, and 10000 years ago.
