Right, Israel has nothing to do with our policy on the middle east, and of course we never use our veto to defend our primary client. Israel is building settlement after settlement -- time was when this was considered real fringe stuff, now it is a fact of life that we gently admonish while protecting Israel from having to do anything distasteful -- like getting the hell out of all those illegal settlements. Instead we watch day after day while Israel pummels the Palestinians while they blow themselves up in public places.

I had to laugh at this morning's Reuters summary:

PARIS - France says new British proposals on disarming Iraq do not address the key issue of seeking a peaceful solution to the showdown with Baghdad and that Paris rejects the "logic of ultimatums".

I think it would better read: "New French ultimatums on seeking a peaceful solution to the showdown with Baghdad do not address the key issue of disarming Iraq."
