Nice post, Paul.

Thanks. I have been working up these ideas for a couple of months and seeing Neocon and Lindy debate the word Imperialism gave me the energy to try to express them.

Capitalist/Democratic/Technological system

I am doing to Jacques Ellul what I understand Schumpeter did to Marx.

My one large argument with this notion is that one can implant it by force.

I don't see us tyring to implant it by force, I see us removing an obstacle to the C/D/T system by force. The C/D/T system advances according to it's own rules and logic. I see OBL, Wahhabism, Saddam as the last bulwarks of 19th century Islam resistance to C/D/T. We need to remove Saddam. We need to discredit and shame OBL. We need to undermine the moral authority of strong Wahhabism. We also need to nourish and protect the emerging Islamic C/D/T systems in Turkey, Jordan, Qatar and Morroco.

Paul

It is not being implanted by force. We are kicking Saddam out with force. The Iraqis are not stupid. They do not need to be treated like children, the way you and the Arabists at State want them to be treated. They can set up a Gov on their own. We are their to make sure that they get a chance to do so.
