The problem is this entire war was predicated on Saddam Hussein's possession of these things. Colin Powell implied they existed recently and the iraqi government was going to great lengths to hide these weapons. If at the end of this we don't have any WMDs to show the world, then the US is toast on the diplomatic front (we already are, actually).

This is turning out to be a rough war, and the iraqis are fighting and I'm not just talking about republican guard units. The US people thought the iraqis would be jumping for joy to be liberated. There are some real troublesome issues here.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that Saddam has not one shred of human decency in him. If he refrains from using WMD, it will be because he understands very clearly how damaging it is to U.S. credibility not to find anything. He is clever like a fox and has stashed them somewhere (Syria and Lebanon) where we won't find them. I will bet my last dollar that when he see his death as imminent, he'll let loose any that he has in country. Guaranteed.
