It's only been 7 days. Like calling the World series after 2 games.

It was not just a PR mistake. Rumsfeld HOPED Iraqis would rise up. He ignored any evidence which countered his optimistic scenario. Rumsfeld really believed the crap he was shoveling.

He never said he expected the best-case scenarios, it was the pundits and the media who said so. Rummy has been quite careful about his predictions. He hoped for a collapse of the regime (which may come yet), but never out and out expected it. Don't blame Rumsfeld for press hysteria.

Steeny, Rummy went hoping to take out Saddam and his sons and have the regime crumble. But we had to "follow on" in line to take care of business if it didn't. This is what you want to do. Rummy is the finest Sec Def in the History of this country. Relax and wait for the finale. Remember, people were predicting disaster in Afghanistan the day before the Taliban crumbled.
