It is not the leading reason to be there, but it is something we are eager to do now that we have committed ourselves. We are there because we consider Saddam to be dangerous, because of his stockpiles of biological and chemical munitions, and because of his interest in acquiring a nuclear capability, however......

The neocons have had so many propaganda lines on why they needed this war so bad, it was always impossible to keep them straight. Operation Iraqi Freedom? Why ask why?

>We are there for security reasons. Democratization is a bonus. >

What security reasons? Saddam seemed willing to leave the U.S. alone - he certainly didn't pose enough of a threat to justify the current war.

This war is about U.S. influence in the middle east. The hope is that by exerting control over a country with the second largest oil reserves in the world (with 90% of the land still unexplored mind you) the U.S. exerts more power internationally over countries like China - who depend on mid east oil. The fact that countries such as Iraq and Iran have recently been pricing their oil in euro-dollars poses a greater threat to the standard of living of Americans than you understand.

Things like destroying WMD are just side items but not the "real" justification for the war.

What will the U.S. do if Iraq becomes democratic and then votes the U.S. off it's soil? Answer - nothing - it will stay put despite all the high talk.
